The Algonkins of the Ottawa Valley aren’t manning barricades, brandishing guns or selling illicit goods. They remain a courageous, quiet, thoughtful people, the poetry of their nature showing itself in their long, successful care-taking of the Valley. Mella of the Fox Clan is a character of tragic legend, but her valorous, mystical, stubborn spirit speaks for the Algonkin.

She came to the Ottawa Valley ten thousand years ago. She was one of the first of the Menominee, the Wild River People.
